Nancy has taught mathematics to students from kindergarten through grade 12 in suburban, rural, and urban schools and in both private and public school settings. Nancy has also taught mathematics education courses at Boston University. She is a faculty member at Milton High School in Milton, MA, where she also serves as the advisor for the Future Teachers' Club.
Nancy is the creator of Multiplication Fact Fluency Cards, published by Didax. Her other publications include Talk Moves: A Teacher's Guide for Using Classroom Discussions in Math Class, Good Questions for Math Teaching, Grades 5-8, Good Questions for Math Teaching, High School, and What’s Right About Wrong Answers: Learning from Math Mistakes.
Nancy is a frequent speaker at regional and national conferences. She has presented on the topics of talk moves, questioning strategies, writing in math class, equitable mathematics instruction, mathematics coaching, teacher learning, and the power of mistakes as a tool for learning.
Nancy earned her undergraduate degree at Boston University where she graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. She holds the degrees Master of Education and Doctor of Education from Boston University as well. A lifelong learner, Nancy has also earned credits in mathematics from UMASS Boston and Bridgewater State University.
Although the classroom is her "hapy place," Nancy has also enjoyed roles as a mathematics curriculum coordinator, lead teacher, and professional developer. Nancy served as a math coach for INSPIRE-Math, a collaborative research project between the Teaching Systems Lab at MIT and the Boston Public Schools.
Outside of math, Nancy's interests include weight training, yoga, baking, all things Disney, reading, biking on the Cape Cod Rail Trail, and chasing the perfect sunset. A lifelong New Englander, Nancy lives in Milton, MA with her husband, daughter, and two ragdoll cats.
